Reflections on Norbourne

Recently, I got a text from my realtor (and good friend) Paige.

“Lookie” she wrote “your old house is for sale!” Yep, just 3 years after we sold my beloved Norbourne house, it was back on the market. I must admit, I got a bit emotional. It’s no secret how much I loved that house. For a minute, I actually entertained buying it back. Temporary amnesia!!! I had to remind myself of all the reasons we decided to move. No storage. Creepy basement. Old, detached garage. I could go on and on! Once I talked myself off the ledge, I remembered that I actually DO like our new house. But still I was feeling a bit of regret. I remembered all my plans for “blog worthy” remodeling projects. Did I let my old house down? Was I a designer fail?

But then I had a cool revelation.

Each owner of that house had left one single significant contribution. A breakfast room addition. A newly remodeled kitchen. A much-needed 2nd bathroom (us!). And now, the new sales listing revealing a fabulous backyard deck! This house was doing just fine and that chapter for us was over.

Now I’m setting my sites on a new design journey. This time, it’s a 1977 mid century ranch. It sits on a quiet cul de sac, has a nice big yard, and has lots and lots of potential. I’m finding so much inspiration every day and I’m even discovering an appreciation for outdoor design spaces! Could this be my “blog worthy” house??? Stay tuned!
